Atiku Shocks Tinubu, Gets Big Southwest Bounce With Ladoja
The political firmament in the Southwest was reverberating on Thursday as it was confirmed that former Governor Rasheed Ladoja had pitched tent with Atiku Abubakar, the PDP candidate against his long-time friend and associate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
GWG.ng reports that Ladoja whose relationship with Tinubu stretches to their working days in Mobil Nigeria had only few months ago received the APC candidate with a warm embrace holding on to Tinubu for almost one minute as they embraced one another.
It would be recalled that when he was forced out by the controversial impeachment masterminded by the late Pa Adedibu in 2005 that Tinubu who was at that time the only sitting opposition governor in the Southwest was alleged to have offered him shelter and logistics leading to the judicial reversal of his impeachment.
The expectation was that Ladoja especially given their relationship from Mobil would key in to the Tinubu aspiration.
However, the former Oyo State governor after quietly receiving an advance delegation of Atiku’s including running mate Governor Ifeanyi Okowa on Wednesday, is about this moment on Thursday, set to openly endorse the PDP candidate shocking many political stakeholders.
Some were, however, not too shocked as they alleged that such political craftiness had always been part of Ladoja’s political philosophy with some recalling that that was what led to his falling out with Pa Adedibu after they arranged for him to come to power in 2003.
Reactions over the shocking decision of Ladoja to choose Atiku over Tinubu was trending on social media on Thursday with PDP enthusiasts alleging that Atiku was beginning to show his hand in a region that some were beginning to write him off.
