Atletico Madrid have confirmed the signing of Dutch international Memphis Depay from Barcelona for a fee in the region of £3-4 million following what many saw as an unhappy time in Camp Nou.
The 30-year-old forward had fallen out of favour under Xavi’s management at Barcelona and has seen little or no game time at all throughout the campaign.
La Blaugrana’s buoyant attacking options has limited game time for both Depay and Ferran Torres as Xavi always prefers to go with Ousmane Dembele, Ansu Fati, Robert Lewandowki and Raphinha.
That has, however, forced the Dutchman to find a way out of the Nou Camp, with his agent confirming earlier that many offers were on the table.
However, after several bids from Atletico Madrid, Barcelona have accepted a £4 million offer for Depay, in a contract that will see him at the Wanda Metropolitano until 2028. It was reported earlier that the deal will include Atletico’s Yannick Carrasco to join Barca, but no agreements were sealed concerning the Belgian.
Memphis Depay has now departed the Spanish giants after just two years, winning only the Spanish Super Cup this season after a 3-1 win over Real Madrid in the final.
