Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu has been reinstated as the Obong of Calabar by the Etubom’s Conclave days after he was sacked by the judgment of the Supreme Court.

GWG.ng reports that the Supreme Court had on January 13th, 2023, ordered a new process of selection for the Obong of Calabar ruling that the sacked monarch could participate in the new process.

Following the court order, the former Obong, Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu, was selected and proclaimed as the new Obong of Calabar on Wednesday, January 18, 2023 by the Etubom’s Conclaves.

Jubilation In Palace As Supreme Court Dethrones Obong Of Calabar

This was announced in a statement released by the Chairman of the Etubom Conclaves, His Royal Majesty Etubom Ntiero Efiwwat, at the Palace of the Obong.

The statement explained that the Etubom’s Council followed the court’s order and conducted a new selection process in accordance with the Constitution of Etuboms’ Council 2002 and in compliance with the rules of natural justice.

The statement disclosed that the Atai Iboko group of Houses, as per the Constitution of Etuboms’ Council 2002, was responsible for presenting a nominee for the throne and the most senior Etubom of Atai Iboko group, HRH Etubom Otu Efa Otu, presented Edidem Ekpo Okon Abasi Otu of Adiabo Ikot Mbo Otu House as the nominee.

The Etuboms’ Conclave declared him as the successor and proclaimed him as the Obong of Calabar on January 18th, 2023 and as such reinstated him to the throne.
