An estimated 300 passengers onboard the Warri – Itakpe train are said to be stranded within the forest in Kogi State after the train derailed according to sources.

A senior official of the Nigerian Railway Corporation confirmed the derailment to GWG.ng late on Sunday night but the corporation was yet to get details of the accident.

“It is true but we are yet to get the details,” the official said.

The accident is happening about two weeks after bandits stormed the Igueben Train Station along the route and kidnapped 20 passengers.

All 20 passengers have, however, been recovered following efforts of security agencies with the assistance of the Edo State Government.

A source disclosed that the train derailment on Sunday happened at about 12 noon.

Meanwhile, besides the news of the derailment of the Warri – Itakpe train, GWG.ng the Rabiu Kwakwanso Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) has advised Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), to adopt its candidate for the 2023 election.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Kwakwanso is the presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).

The Kwakwanso PCC’s Coordinator, South-South, Chief Precious Elekimah, gave the advice in a statement he made available to newsmen in Abuja.

He said the country currently “requires a president without baggages and with the capacity to hit the ground running,” which his party’s candidate represented.
