Nelson Twinamasiko, the radio station manager in Kanungu District, Uganda, has been detained by police after allegedly assaulting a female presenter at the same station.

Twinamasiko was remanded at the Kanungu government prison on allegations of assault on Thursday, February 2 following a ruling by the Kanungu Grade One Magistrate Mr. Asanasio Mukobi.

Tumuramye alleged that she was assaulted after the station manager refused to give her a Sh40,000 ad commission. According to reports, she had a client who gave her Shs200,000.

The two employees have been suspended awaiting the outcome of the police investigations, the radio station said in a statement on Thursday.

“The administration of Kanungu FM Radio regrets this occurrence and does not support acts of indiscipline or inappropriate behavior. We sincerely apologize to our valued listeners, business clients, and the general public,” the Kanungu FM Radio station management said in a statement.

The management of Kanungu FM Radio station has also written to provide clarification regarding a brief video that has been spreading on social media that shows a man and a woman fighting.

Nelson Twinamasiko was hired by the management of Kanungu FM Radio as its new station manager in November of last year.

“He quickly audited the books of accounts after taking up his duties and found numerous discrepancies. It’s crucial to remember that Ms. Anita Tumuramye, the woman in the video, was also a cashier in addition to her other responsibilities. According to the public notification, the new manager implemented new management reforms, including strict financial management guidelines.

The management also claimed that certain station employees did not appreciate the new policies since they were accustomed to the old methods of doing things and opposed the new culture, which strained relations with the new manager.

According to information, Mr. Twinamasiko reported the altercation to the police the same night at Kanungu Police Station, while Ms. Tumuramye decided to make her accusations the next day at the same police station.
