Arsenal suffered just their second league defeat this season after a 1-0 loss at Goodison Park to a rejuvenated Everton side in Sean Dyche’s first game as the Toffees boss.

The Gunners were in fine form prior to the game and giving Everton’s 19th placed position, the visitors were predicted to have a comfortable afternoon.

However, new head coach Sean Dyche had other plans and his decision to go with three defensive midfielders proved a bitter pill for Arsenal to swallow. Everton were the better side in the opening 45 minutes as they restricted their opponents to no goal attempts, while themselves failing to make use of their two shots on goal.

The 60th minute came Everton’s breakthrough as two former players under Sean Dyche at Burnley combined to make it 1-0. Dwight McNeil’s floated in corner was met brilliantly by James Tarkowski who left the keeper with no chance. Arsenal brought on their new signings Leandro Trossard and Jorginho but it appeared too little, too late as Mikel Arteta’s men fell to their third straight defeat at Goodison Park.

Here are three key facts from the game as Everton beat Arsenal 1-0:

• 3 – Mikel Arteta has lost all three of his away matches against Everton in his managerial career. Indeed, Arteta is the first Arsenal manager to lose three consecutive Premier League away games against the Toffees.

• 2 – Sean Dyche is just the second manager to beat a league leader in his first Premier League game in charge of a club, after Alan Curbishley’s West Ham beat Man Utd in December 2006.

• 5 – Arsenal have named the same starting XI in five consecutive Premier League matches for the first time since April-May 2015 (six games).
