Osimhen’s Header Breaks Cristiano Ronaldo’s Serie A Record

Super Eagles and Napoli forward Victor Osimhen has beaten Cristiano Ronaldo’s record for the highest vertical leap for a header in Serie A history.

The leading top scorer in the Italian league this season with 16 goals, Osimhen was impressive yet again as Napoli stretched their lead at the top to 16 points with a 3-0 away victory at Spezia. The Nigerian bagged a brace which included a sublime header for his first goal, before he added another with a clinical finish inside the box.

Osimhen’s leap for the header was measured to be 2.58m beating Cristiano Ronaldo’s header for Juventus against Sampdoria in 2020, which was adjudged to be 2.56m. The 24-year-old is also on course to create more history as he looks to become the first African to win the golden boot in the Serie A.

Meanwhile, the news of Osimhen’s leap over Ronaldo in Serie A records came with the news that the Nordic Olympic Committees has written the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to reiterate their opposition to Russian and Belarusian athletes being allowed to take part in international sports.

The IOC said last month that athletes from Russia and Belarus might be allowed to earn slots for the Olympic Games in Paris next year through Asian qualifying.

“Now is not the right time to consider their return. That is our position,” the statement said.Categories
