Traffic Diversion As Tanker Explodes On Lagos-Ibadan Highway
Traffic on the Lagos-Ibadan highway in Ogun State has been affected by a tanker explosion that has led to the diversion of motorists from the expressway.
The collision took place between Fidiwo bridge and Foursquare at around 07:30 on Friday leading to a blockage of the highway that connects the North and South from Lagos.
The Federal Road Safety Corps, or FRSC, confirmed the event and claimed three people were involved, but no injuries or fatalities were reported. An unregistered Daf tanker and one other vehicle were involved in the collision, according to Florence Okpe, FRSC spokesman in Ogun.
“Wrongful overtaking is believed to have caused the collision, which scratched two automobiles and set them ablaze.
Traffic was quickly redirected, and the incident scene was blocked off to prevent a second collision. “The fire service men were informed,” Okpe said.
She cited Ahmed Umar, Sector Commander of the FRSC in Ogun, as saying that whenever drivers wish to overtake, they should constantly assess if doing so is legal and safe. Umar further recommended that drivers use caution and follow basic traffic laws.
