I Go Extra Miles To Reach My Political Goals – Ekwunife
Senator Uche Ekwunife, (PDP) representing Anambra Central District at the National Assembly says women aspiring to political offices in Nigeria must prepare to go extra miles to compete with men.
Ekwunife made the statement during an interactive session with the members of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUI) Anambra State Council on Thursday in Awka.
The lawmaker said that more than 99 percent of the projects she attracted to her constituency was gotten due to extra miles she went.
“As a member of the National Assembly, you don’t have to bank on the N250 million built into the budget as Constituency projects.
“Like we have 59 communities in Anambra Central Senatorial District, if I have to deliver service to my people based on the Constituency projects money, that will not do much.
” For me, I have to go extra miles by lobbying the Senate President, Deputy Senate President, Ministers and heads of agencies to make sure I attracted projects and employment for my people,” she said.
Ekwunife said the drive to go extra miles to perform as a female was in-order to pave ways for other women aspiring for political offices.
She said her aim of seeking re-election was to consolidate and do more for her constituents in the next dispensation.
Ekwunife, the chairman Senate Committee on Science and Technology used the medium to clear the air on some publications pitching her with other political office seekers in the state.
“Some people have been forging my letterhead to write all manner of things which target to heat my head with candidates of other political parties in 2023 elections.
“My response to this is that I have never issued any letter against anyone either contesting for presidency or senate.
“My preoccupation is not about anyone contesting a different position with me.
“For those seeking the same position with me, all I want from them is let them match me projects to projects, employment to employment and not dollar to dollar,” she said.
