Akpabio’s Ego Versus Annang Unity In Akwa Ibom Northwest
THE senator representing Akwa Ibom NorthWest senatorial district, Senator Christopher Ekpenyong has said the unity of the Annang people is bigger than the interest of Senator Godswill Akpabio.
The former deputy governor of the state spoke in view of claims, counter claims, propaganda, blackmails that have continued to dominate the political space over Akwa Ibom NorthWest (Ikot Ekpene) senatorial district seat which he is currently occupy.
Members and supporters of the two rival parties in Akwa Ibom, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and All Progressives Congress (APC) are in serious struggle over the Senate seat and have respectively fielded Emmanuel Enoidem and Godswill Akpabio.
Addressing some newsmen over the controversial seat ahead of the Saturday polls, Ekpenyong said: “On the case of who succeeds me I reiterate that Senator Godswill Akpabio should stop the game he is trying to play.
“The collective interest of the Annang nation is bigger than his interest. He should step down and stop insulting those who have been earthly god to him, especially people like Atuekong Don Etiebet.
“For me he should forget about going to the Senate again because there’s nothing he wants to do as a Senator that he couldn’t have done when he was minister of Niger Delta Affairs. As minister of Niger Delta with a huge budget he didn’t’ address the erosion problem facing Esatan, Spring road and Nkor road.
“Look at the east-west road he didn’t do anything about it. He had control over the budget of 9 states what did he do that’s of benefit to Akwa Ibom or Annang land, Nothing of note you can pin-point.”
Meanwhile, stakeholders of both political parties in the state have been engaging in series of meetings, strategizing ahead of the polls.
While the body language of the PDP supporters shows that they are afraid that Akpabio could carry the day following his popularity, indication also shows that the APC supporters on their part are uncertain whether the current economic hardship which worsened under the APC administration could determine the voting pattern this time.
Even some Stakeholders of the party led by Atuekong Don Etiebet have withdrawn their support for Akpabio for refusing to allow someone from Abak federal consituency comprising Abak, Etim Ekpo, and Ika local government areas to occupy the Senate seat, upon the claim that the Annang had taken a position in the past on rotation.
