With Upgraded BVAS, Accreditation Will Be Swift – Anambra – REC

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has deployed enough materials including upgraded BVAS machines, security and manpower at 5, 720 Polling Units for the February 25 presidential and national assembly election in Anambra, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC for the state has said.

Dr Queen Elizabeth Agwu, Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), INEC, Anambra made this known during a news conference on Friday in Awka.

“We have 5,720 Polling Units in Anambra and as I speak with you we have deployed enough materials, security and manpower in all these areas.

” The people are willing to participate in the election tomorrow and we encourage people to come out en-mass”, she said.

Agwu said there was the need for the people to come out and exercise their franchise, saying the Commission is committed towards conducting credible, free, and fair elections.

The REC said the Commission has adequately prepared for the election, noting, BVAS have been upgraded to function more efficiently, and the manpower trained.

“Before now, voters use to stand for minutes to be captured by the BVAS, but this time the device will not take seconds to accredite prospective voters because the system has been upgraded,” the Anambra REC said.

Agwu encouraged Nigerians to come out in their numbers, saying the best way to effect positive change is for the masses to fully participate in the election which determine the leadership of the country.

She said, people have been asking questions since November when I resumed whether elections will hold in Anambra, but now the answer is clear, election is holding in all parts of the state.

“All I advised is that people should not sell their voters because that will deprive the country of good leaders.

“Election is a game and not war, if you lose today, but tomorrow you can win, it is not a do or die affairs.

“Everybody including the youths should participate effectively to move Nigeria forward,” she said.

Responding to questions on the permanent voters cards discovered in a forest in Nnewi, Agwu said that the matter is being investigated.

“On assumption of duty, we had about 134, 000 PVCs, but people collected theirs thereby making the total number of voters in Anambra to about 2.5 million voters”, she said.
