2023 Nigeria Decides
Don’t Fight Over My Loss In Lagos, Tinubu Warns
By Onyinyechukwu Chima
All Progressives Congress, APC presidential candidate (APC) , Bola Tinubu, has urged Lagos residents to avoid violence following the announcement of his loss of the presidential election in the state.
GWG.ng reports that Peter Obi, the candidate of the Labour Party (LP), was declared the winner. Obi polled 582,664, while Tinubu scored 541,850 a development that has shocked political permutations in the state.
There were reports that some Igbo residents were attacked in some parts of Lagos State on Monday a decision that has led to a standoff in the markets mainly operated by Igbo traders who have locked shop pending the calming of tensions around the state.
There were reports that some shops in some popular markets had been invaded by thugs angered by the loss of the former Lagos State governor in the election in the state.
However, in a statement released hours after Obi was announced winner, Tinubu asked that the outcome of the election should not be a source of provocation to anyone saying that the APC narrowly lost the poll in the state should not push anyone to violence.
“The fact that the APC narrowly lost Lagos State to another party should not be the reason for violence. As a democrat, you win some, you lose some. We must allow the process to continue unhindered across the country while we maintain peace and decorum,” Tinubu added in caution over his loss of Lagos to Peter Obi.
