FG Orders Probe Into Lagos Train Accident

The accident between a passenger train and a bus carrying some civil officials to their workplaces in Lagos on Thursday morning is reportedly the subject of an immediate probe by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB).
Senator Hadi Sirika, the Minister of Aviation, who made the announcement, said the NSIB would investigate the immediate and long-term causes of the accident and suggest strategies for avoiding such in the future.
In a statement issued by his Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Dr. James Odaudu, Sirika asked for the public’s assistance as the NSIB team’s probe got under way.
Besides the probe of the train accident in Lagos, the Minister also expressed his condolences to the Lagos State government and people, particularly to those who had lost loved ones, and he prayed for those who had been hurt in the tragedy to recover quickly.
GWG.ng reports that the train accident with the BRT bus on Thursday morning has elicited strong response from the public and political stakeholders. The accident happening at the peak of the election season has led political actors to show concern with some of them showing unusual empathy for the victims of the accident. At least two persons were reported to have died from the accident with many injured.
