Nigerians have taken to social media to react after popular Nigerian skit maker, compere, and actor, Nosa Afolabi, popularly known as Lasisi Elenu had his baby’s hair, Rain Olanma Oluwanifemi Afolabi shaved.

The comedian, who welcomed his first child with his wife, Nonso Adika in October 2022, shared a video on his Instagram page showing his wife shaving off their daughter’s first hair. This act is a traditional practice in many African cultures and is believed to be an act of purification.

In the video, Lasisi Elenu jokingly expressed his shock and surprise at the new look of his baby girl, comparing her after his baby’s hair has been shaved to a character from the popular animated TV series, “Avatar: The Last Airbender”.

He went on to tag his daughter’s Instagram handle and apologized for the hair shaving, while also tagging his wife’s handle and playfully questioning her audacity.

The video has since gone viral on social media, with many of Lasisi’s fans and followers expressing their amusement and delight at the comedian’s reaction to the hair shaving. The post has also sparked a discussion online about the importance of traditional practices and their place in modern society.

Many people have praised Lasisi and his wife for embracing their cultural heritage and passing it on to their daughter. Some have also expressed their support for the comedian and his family, noting that the practice of hair shaving is a beautiful and meaningful tradition that should be preserved and celebrated.

However, others have criticized the practice, arguing that it has no place in modern society and should be abandoned. They argue that it is outdated and can be harmful to children, both physically and emotionally.

A netizen wrote: “Na to teach am air bending techniques remain.

Another one wrote: “She get the papa head”.

Another one wrote: “Kwara people and their practices, God forbid”.

Another wrote: “Her hair would have grown even without the hair cut!!! Cutting babies hair changes the texture of their hair!”
