Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his major rival in the Lagos State governorship election, Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour voted in their separate polling booths on Saturday morning bringing different perspectives to the violence that is reported to be engulfing the election in Lagos.

GWG.ng reports that there have been different accounts of voter suppression in different polling centres with thugs allegedly warning voters to keep away if they are not voting for the APC.

Among those affected was the top Nollywood actress, Chioma Akpotha.

In some centres especially in the Ago area of Lagos, there have also been accounts of thugs destroying already cast ballots not in favour of APC.

Rhodes-Vivour reacted to the development as he was about casting his vote saying that voters in Lekki and Ajah living in their estates were being lured away from their polling centres to come to the expressway by polling officers who claim that they cannot enter the estates. According to him the polling officers were doing that so as to open up the voters to thugs to intimidate them.

Rhodes-Vivour also alleged that there were pre-loaded BVAS machines in Osborne Road voting points.

Also reacting like Rhodes-Vivour, Governor Sanwo-Olu said that while he had heard of reports of violence in some part of Lagos, but he said he would not give life to such details because the reports were yet to be verified.

He, however, appealed for peace saying:

“I want to reiterate that this contest is about peace, and about prosperity for our people. Everyone should have a right to express themselves peacefully.

A few disturbing things but which are not verifiable, so I am not going to talk about it. If you see something, say something. Intimidation is not acceptable to us as a government.”
