Emmanuel governorship election Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom state Governor, Mr  Udom Emmanuel has expressed delight over the smooth conduct of the governorship and state assembly elections in his home Local Government Area Onna and by extension the entire state.

Speaking to newsmen soon after casting his vote at the Awa Iman Ward 1, polling unit 1, within the Civic Centre, Governor Emmanuel said even though it may not be a hundred percent perfect system, elections in Akwa Ibom could so far be scored ninety percent which by his assessment is excellent.

“What interests me most is the peaceful conduct I’m seeing within my Local Government Area here. I just pray it will be replicated across the state. No system is hundred percent perfect. If we can score ninety percent here with only ten percent error margin, we will still be excellent.

“I mean, as far as the system is run by human beings it can never be error free” he explained.

Governor Emmanuel however frowned at alleged pockets of disruptions in Eket and some Local Government Areas by some electorates in concert with few sham security personnel and called on the authorities concerned  to ensure that their officers live up to expectations to aid smooth conduct of the elections and take appropriate actions against  defaulters.

“I’ve been informed of one Rita Okiemese, a DCP that came in from Abuja with a truck load of Policemen.

I’m told she’s all over Eket now, disrupting elections. I’ve reported her to the AIG and I hope the Police authority will take serious actions against her.

Police is meant to ensure free, fare and credible elections , but what she’s doing right now in Eket can create a lot of problems”.

On his preparedness to round off his administration, the second term Governor said, “These eight years have been eventful and I’m excited today that they are going to elect another person that will take over from me.

“If you check the whole country, I was the first governor to set up a transition committee, to make way for another leadership in the State”.
