Guinea Bissau Shame Super Eagles In Abuja 1-0
By GWG Football Editor
Jose Peseiro’s unflattering run as Super Eagles manager continued on Friday when unfancied Guinea Bissau team ranked 118 in the world defeated the Nigerian football team in the Abuja stadium in the AFCON qualifier.
Though the Nigerian team parading some of the best African footballers in Europe controlled the pace and pattern of the game, the Super Eagles of Nigeria were unable to strike at goal.
Guinea Bissau got the only goal of the game in the 29th minute through Mama Balde and thereafter, dug in defensively to thwart several efforts by the Nigerian multi-billion naira team.
Though Nigeria managed 17 shots at goal to the 7 managed by Guinea Bissau, they failed to convert any and that was despite maintaining about 70% of the ball possession.
With the win, Guinea Bissau goes on top of Group A. The other members of the group are Sierra Leone and Sao Tome and Principe.
