Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has become England’s all-time top goal scorer with 54 goals, as he scored a penalty in their 2-1 win over Italy at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium.

He confidently despatched a penalty kick after Giovanni Di Lorenzo was deemed to have handled the ball inside the box. That moment marked history as he surpassed Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney to become England’s all-time top goalscorer with 54 goals.

Despite a late fightback from Italy who pulled one back, Gareth Southgate’s men hung on to register their first victory on Italian soil since 1961. For Mancini’s European champions, their first home loss in a Euro qualifier for the first time in 17 years.

Meanwhile, the news of Kane becoming all time top goal scorer for England came as former Togo international Emmanuel Adebayor announced his retirement from professional football after a 22-year career.
