Staff, Students Welcome FUTO VC After Abia Election (Video)

The vice-chancellor of the Federal University of Technology, Owerri, FUTO, Professor Nnenna Oti has returned to her campus following her outstanding role as returning officer of the Abia governorship election where she stood her ground in facilitating a free and fair process.

GWG.ng reports that Professor Oti shone out when she rebuffed entreaties from politicians to rewrite the outcome of the governorship election as she went on to return Labour Party candidate, Alex Otti as the winner.

The announcement provoked joy all around the state with dancing and celebrations accompanied with free drinks.

Following the conclusion of her election duty and return to the campus she was received in a carnval like procession.

In a video circulating online and obtained by GWG.ng, staff and students were seen hailing Professor Nnenna Oti as the heroine of democracy following her stance on the Abia election.

“Welcome back Nnenna Oti, Heroine of Nigeria Democracy,” one of the banners that was spread out proclaimed.

In the face of the pressures to rig the poll, she had said:

“I shall stand squarely and unapologetically on these principles. The people’s votes and mandate shall stand.

“The pastor and the mother in me will not permit me to do anything that will adversely affect the future of our children,” she said.
