In what is bound to come as a shocker and twist in the crisis in the All Progressives Congress, APC in Delta State, a cousin of senior party chief, Dr Cairo Ojougboh has accused him of canvassing support for the vice-presidential aspiration of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa against the desires of the party.

Barrister Festus Ofume, the APC’s House of Assembly candidate for Ika South Constituency made the assertion in an appearance on Arise News Television on Thursday morning as he debunked claims made by Dr Ojougboh against the party’s governorship candidate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege of among others sidelining party chiefs and pocketing the party structure.

GWG.ng reports that Dr Ojougboh had in two previous appearances on Arise News alleged that Omo-Agege frustrated the party’s election prospects by sidelining many party chiefs. Ojougboh had claimed that apart from himself and a few other party chiefs that many others either worked against Omo-Agege or voted against him because of his character.

But responding, Ofume who claimed a distant relationship with Ojougboh said:

“I am from Ward 6 which is also the ward that Dr Cairo Ojougboh is from. Cairo Ojougboh’s expulsion from the party was a result of the sins of anti-party activities that we have seen in the person with Dr Cairo Ojougboh, so it has nothing to do with Senator Ovie Omo-Agege. We are the ward level took our time to analyse, evaluate and came to the conclusion that this is actually the right time to remove some baggage that have been causing negative damages on our party and Dr Cairo Ojougboh was one of them.

“For the records I will like to let you and the world know that right from the very moment that Cairo Ojougboh joined the APC that Cairo had never attended any of the ward meetings or any of the activities of the APC at the ward level, at the Local Government Level or even at the state level. So, we don’t have him as a member of our party.  All his efforts have been negative vibes to bring negative vibes to the party. After the series of his anti-party activities, the leadership of the party and the executive at the ward level evaluated his activities and found them short of what are expected from a chieftain of the party and it was based on these anti-party activities that he was expelled.

Given the age-long local rivalry between Ojougboh and Governor Okowa who come from the same federal constituency, he said that APC operatives in their community were shocked by what he claimed as instructions from him, Ojougboh to mobilise support for Okowa and the PDP just before the presidential election.

“Few days to the presidential election, Cairo Ojougboh called the community members which is ward 6 in Alihami and clearly instructed them to vote for the PDP candidate in the presidential election which is Atiku Abubakar and Ifeanyi Okowa. People resisted and a number of party members came to my house immediately asking what is going on, look at what Dr Cairo Ojougboh instructed us. You can see even in his unit he scored 20 while the PDP scored 30 plus.”

Dr Cairo Ojougboh did not respond to a call and text message sent to him on the issue of him allegedly mobilising support for Okowa as alleged by Ofume.
