Court Reinstates Plateau Assembly Speaker Impeached In 2021
A Plateau State High Court 6 presided by Justice M. L. Musa, on Monday, reinstated Hon. Nuhu Abok as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
A Plateau State High Court 6 presided by Justice M. L. Musa, on Monday, reinstated Hon. Nuhu Abok as Speaker of the Plateau State House of Assembly.
Recall that Abok was impeached by members of the House in October 2021.
But, dissatisfied with the House decision, Abok approached the State High Court for redress.
In its judgment, the Court upheld the submissions of the complainants that the impeachment was illegal and, therefore, null and void.
The Court further awarded the sum of N1.5million as cost of appearance and the sum of N138,000 as cost of filing the suit against the defendants.
It will also be recalled that Abok was replaced by Hon. Yakubu Sanda as Speaker at the time of the impeachment.
Sanda was, however, defeated by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Hon. Mrs. Happiness Matthew Akawu, in the just-concluded Pengana State constituency election.
