Winner Of £1.6bn Lottery Goes On £24m Spending Spree

A man who won a $2.04 billion (£1.6 billion) lottery last November and vowed to keep out of the limelight has, however, been tantalizing neighbours and the public with his extravagant purchases.

Edwin Castro of California, US, won the record-breaking Powerball sum last November.

The winning ticket was purchased in Altadena, a neighborhood in the foothills northeast of Los Angeles, at Joe’s Service Center.

Castro was labeled “the luckiest guy around” by CBS. It has now been revealed that he recently bought a new house in Altadena for $4 million (£3.23 million), not far from the petrol station where he bought his winning ticket.

This comes after he paid a staggering $25 million (£20.19 million) for a Hollywood Hills “bachelor pad,” according to the tabloid.

The most recent acquisition is a “contemporary residence with Asian design” with five bedrooms and four bathrooms.

The home has a soundproof movie theater, gym, infinity pool, outdoor kitchen, and pond. It also has an art studio. If that wasn’t enough, it also has a sauna, wine cellar, and cold plunge pool.

Despite California law saying that a winner does not have to go public, Castro came forward more than three months after purchasing the winning ticket.

Owner of Joe’s Service Center, Joe Chahayed also received a $1 million (£821,613) bonus for selling the winning ticket.

Castro rebuffed a request from government representatives to address the media in November following his victory. Instead, he submitted a written letter in which he expressed his shock and ecstasy at winning the lotto.
