Adamawa Governor Vows To Prosecute REC, Says He Fought ‘Owners’ Of Nigeria
The newly declared governor-elect of Adamawa State Ahmadu Fintiri has vowed to prosecute those involved in the manipulation of the state’s governorship election who he claimed were used by those he claimed as Abuja based owners of Nigeria.
Speaking in an interview, Governor Fintiri alleged that the contest was between him and enemies of democracy who picked on his All Progressives Congress, APC rival Aishatu Binani as a scapegoat to actualize their aspiration.
Fintiri who spoke in an interview on Channel Television’s Politics Today further alleged that APC officials were recruited as polling officials setting the stage that the election was between him and a system orchestrated to ensure his defeat.
“I did not run against a woman I ran against enemies of democracy outside Adamawa State. They decided to be enemies of democracy and the only scape goat that they could find was in Adamawa State…forgetting that we have done very well, that our people love us and voted for continuity of excellent rural and urban infrastructure.”
Asked on the lessons to be learnt from the episode, the governor said:
“Police that is supposed to protect democracy was caught up in the whole saga. It is unfortunate, it is a disgrace and I think everybody is making up and they are trying to correct their wrongs and …and if these people will be properly prosecuted, but if they don’t, (as) this criminality took place in Adamawa State and I am going to prosecute them,” Governor Fintiri said.
Though he did not mention names it is generally beleived that the Adamawa Resident Electoral Commissioner, Hudu Ari is generally beleived to be top on the list of those Fintiri would be targetting to prosecute.
“This charade that took place in the last three weeks has not but any line among our people. We are still one. The people that won in this whole struggle are the people of Adamawa State and I think we are still one irrespective of how one has voted. I am the governor for all of them.
“I did not contest against a woman or APC, I contested against those who think they own Nigeria from Abuja, they think they can make Adamawa a scapegoat. I didn’t go into the election against a woman, I went into the election I think against whole presiding officers that conducted the election, all of them were APC members, all of them were APC officials.”
