Corps Member Explains Why He Raped Girlfriend’s Bestie

A National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member, Adebola Sodiq, has been arrested by men of the Ogun State Police Command for the alleged rape of the friend of his girlfriend.

The state police image-maker, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, who disclosed the development in a statement said that NYSC member was arrested on Friday.

His arrest was sequel to a report lodged at the Owode Egba Divisional Police Headquarters by the victim.

The victim said that the rape happened after the Youth Corps member who happened to be a boyfriend to her very close friend, came to her apartment where she lives with her co-workers on 9 May,

She claimed that the suspected rapist asked her to follow him to the village junction so as to buy a gift for her in commemoration of her birthday which was recently celebrated.

The victim stated further that “as an intimate friend to the suspect’s girlfriend, she has no reason to suspect any foul play hence she followed him.

“But while they were going, the suspect asked her to follow him to the premises of the school where he is serving, in order to pick his wallet.

“On getting to the school compound at Agbajege Village, the suspect forcefully dragged her to his room where he had unlawful carnal knowledge of her despite her pleading and crying for mercy.”
