Fela’s Family Speaks On Abandoning Seun Kuti
Nigerian singer and grandson of Fela, Made Kuti has given the first insight into the family’s stance on the trial of his uncle, Seun Kuti who is in detention over the assault on a policeman on Third Mainland Bridge.
GWG.ng reports that Seun Kuti was arraigned on Tuesday over the assault.
The normally vocal family of the Afrobeat legend has, however, been largely mum on the issue with most members of the heritage keeping mum.
The silence has fed the insinuation that the family had abandoned Seun Kuti to his own with some even trolling Made Kuti, who is in the third generation and a son of Femi Kuti.
Many had trolled him for abandoning Seun Kuti.
However, on Wednesday, Made Kuti came out to rebuff the criticisms saying that he does not live on social media.
In a post on his Instagram handle, Made Kuti showed himself alongside his father, Femi Kuti and other members of the Kuti clan at the court hearing on Tuesday.
It was a symbolic message of unity among the extended Fela family which has not often shown unity among its different strands.
“At court yesterday, I don’t like that we have to post things on social media to show/prove we’re doing everything we can as a family. But here you go.
Because of this many are cursing at us under my father’s last post, swearing at us for doing nothing. We just accept there’s much more to life than what we see on our phones”.
GWG.ng reports that Seun Kuti turned into a national sensation when a video clip of him assaulting a police officer came to public knowledge. Seun Kuti subsequently let out that the police endangered him and his family and tried to kill him.
The assertions by Made Kuti will undoubtedly rebuff insinuations that the Fela family had abandoned Seun in his moment of trial.
