Well-Wishes Abound As Oborevwori Takes Charge In Delta
Some of Delta State’s most respected elder-statesmen were present on Monday as Chief Sheriff Oborevwori and Sir Monday Onyeme were inaugurated as Governor and Deputy Governor of Delta respectively at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba, the state capital.
Present at the inaugurations were former Governors Ifeanyi Okowa, Emmanuel Uduaghan and also the APGA , Chief Great Ogboru, Speakers of Bayelsa and Edo states, Olu of Warri, Dien of Agbor, Chief James Manager, senator-elect, Ned Nwoko; Chief Ndudi Elemelu, among other dignitaries.
GWG.ng reports that particularly remarkable was the presence of Chief Ogboru, the candidate of APGA in the governorship election, a fact that underlined the claim of the supporters of the new governor of the acceptability of the election.
Oborevwori and Onyeme who took the oath of office as administered by Justice Theresa Diai, Chief Judge of Delta, pledged their resolve to abide by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Oborevwori, former Speaker, Delta State House of Assembly, was the People Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 18 governorship elections which saw his emergence after defeating Sen. Ovie Omo-Agege, All Progressive Congress (APC) in the March 18 election.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Oborevwori is the Fifth Democratically elected Governor of Delta.
Onyeme, took his oath of office at about 11.30 a.m while Oborevwori signs in at about 11.54 a.m as deputy and governor of Delta respectively.
In his acceptance speech, Oborevwori pledged to do more, pays tribute to the immediate past Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa of the state.
According to Oborevwori, I accept with respect, responsibility and resolve to do more to advance the state to new height.
“I stand before you today filled with hope and confidence about our future.
“As the longest serving Speaker of the House of Assembly, I have learned the importance of setting the priorities of government and communicating the roles and outcomes of policies of the government.
” I am, therefore, more positioned as the governor of the state,” Oborevwori said.
He thanked Governors Okowa, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, and Chief James Ibori for the various contributions that had upgraded the development of the state and laid the foundation for further development of the state.
Oborevwori pledged to deepen the development of Warri, and Koko sea ports, enhance social investment schemes to impact youths, persons living with disability, and women as well as complete all ongoing roads, bridges, and other projects.
Earlier, before Oborevwori was inaugurated, the immediate past governor, Senator Okowa, in his farewell speech, appreciated all who supported his government and prayed that the new government would deepen the development in the state.
“I give gratitude to God that I address you today and joy because of the signs of fulfillment for achieving the goals we set for ourselves in 2015.
“I have the privilege of handing over to a worthy successor, who is poised to consolidate on our achievement.
“Eight years ago, we took the oath of office to serve as your governor and deputy with a promise to deliver prosperity to the people of Delta,” he said
Okowa was, however, grateful to God that the economic downturn that hit the government sooner, could not prevent the promises from coming to fruition.
