60 Schoolgirls hospitalized after Mass poisoning

60 Afghan girls have reportedly been poisoned at their school in northern Afghanistan. Authorities reported that the girls were later hospitalized and are now recovering in “good condition.”

The attack, which targeted a girls’ school in the Sar-e Pol province of Afghanistan, came after the Taliban’s takeover brought about intensified scrutiny of female education in the country.

Most adolescent girls are no longer allowed to attend school past the sixth grade and up to the university level due to the Taliban. Additionally, most jobs and public places, like parks, are off-limits to women.

This follows a string of poison attacks on female educational institutions in neighboring Iran. ‘Some unknown people entered a girls’ … school in Sancharak District .. and poisoned the classes, when the girls come to classes they got poisoned,’ said Den Mohammad Nazari, Sar-e-Pol’s police spokesperson

He made no mention of the chemical used or the person suspected of being responsible for the incident. The girls had been rushed to the hospital, but according to Nazari, they were in “good condition.”

The police spokeswoman also stated that nobody has been detained as of yet. There had been multiple poisoning attacks, including alleged gas attacks, on girls’ schools during Afghanistan’s previous foreign-backed administration.

Since assuming power in 2021, the Taliban regime has prohibited the majority of female students from enrolling in high school and universities, drawing criticism from numerous Afghans and other nations.
