New Twist In Nigeria Air Scandal As Sirika Speaks
A new twist to the alleged scandal over the establishment of a new national air carrier named Nigeria Air that has hovered around the former Minister of Aviation, Senator Hadi Sirika, emerged on Sunday when he intoned bribery on the part of a principal critic of the move, Nnolim Nnaji, chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation.
GWG.ng reports that Sirika has been severally accused of foisting a fraudulent deal on the nation through the formation of the airline.
The allusion of fraud was further fanned by the acting managing director of the airline, Captain Dapo Olumide who while appearing before the Senate Committee on Aviation claimed that the aircraft shown as belonging to the airline was actually chartered from Ethiopian Air meant to show off.
During the hearing in the House of Representatives, Nnaji had on his part bemoaned the deal about Nigeria Air as a fraud.
However, speaking for the first time since the national angst against him over the airline deal on Arise News Television on Sunday, Sirika alleged that the lawmaker approached him and asked for five percent shares of the airline for “him and his people”.
“Hon Nnaji asked me that I should give him 5% of Nigeria to carry him along with his people, and I said to him at that time that honourable, you didn’t understand me. This is a bidding process that has taken place. And some people won, So I think he should go to those people and ask for the 5 percent.”
