Tension As Gunmen Kidnap Catholic Priest
There was mild tension in Ohimini Local Government Area of Benue last night (Thursday), as gunmen reportedly kidnapped a Catholic priest of St. Margaret’s Parish, Ajegbe Awume, Otukpo Diocese area of the State, Rev. Fr. Anthony Adikwu.
According to a local who simply identified himself as Sunny informed newsmen that some gunmen came to the Awume community around 10 pm and went straight to the church premises where they whisked the priest away.
“Yesterday (Thursday) night at about 10 pm, some gunmen stormed Ajegbe Awume, Ohimini Benue, the kidnappers went straight to the church premises and kidnapped the Rev. father in charge of St. Margaret Parish,” the source disclosed.
Confirming the abduction, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Catherine Anene said that the command was working towards rescuing the priest.
“The information got to us this morning (Friday) and we are working on it,” PPRO said.
