Buhari: Why I Relocated From Daura To London

Former President Muhammadu Buhari has opened up on how Nigerians forced him to relocate from his Daura home to London in the United Kingdom.

The claim by the former president came as he dismissed insinuations that he recently appealed to President Bola Tinubu not to investigate some former officials of his administration.

GWG.ng reports that the former president’s clarifications came in the wake of some social media comments of the closed-door meeting between President Tinubu and Buhari in London last week.

Noting how he took the decision to relocate to Daura, 450 kilometers from Abuja after handing over, the former president, however, observed that the continued flooding of people to his Daura retirement home again made him relocate 4,344 kilometers away to London, United Kingdom.

Buhari who spoke through his former media aide, Mallam Garba Shehu said:

“If social media is to be believed, former President Muhammadu Buhari is requesting his successor, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to investigate some former officials of his government.

“It is fake, let us not discuss it or give it energy or air of publicity. This is fake news, and nothing more.

“Thankfully, there was no one other than the two leaders in the room in which they met, so no one was there to report their conversation.

“As much as possible, the former President wishes to remain outside the spotlight so as not to distract the new administration.”

Noting how Buhari was forced to relocate his retirement base from Daura to London, Shehu said:

“He chose to go home in Daura hoping to find the type of quiet he wished for himself but realizing that this was not the case, visitors trooping in morning, day and night, he moved out to a more distant place.

“It remains his wish that he be allowed to have his needed rest, and for the Tinubu administration to have the right atmosphere to work on the realisation of the promises they made.”
