Bribery: State Anti-Graft Agency Summons Former Governor One Month After Stepping Down
Kano State’s Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) has summoned the former governor, Abdullahi Ganduje, in relation to a series of controversial videos released in 2017 putting the former governor in a showdown with the anti-graft agency now headed by a man he sacked in controversial circumstances.
The videos, which were published by online news outlet Daily Nigerian, allegedly showed Abdullahi accepting kickbacks from contractors.
The former governor, however, denied the accusations and claimed that the videos had been manipulated.
According to the chairman of the PCACC, Muhuyi Magaji Rimingado, a thorough forensic examination of the videos has verified their authenticity.
He announced at a public dialogue on ‘Anti-Corruption Crusade in Kano’ on Wednesday that the examination indicated the videos were indeed genuine.
Rimingado further disclosed at a program on Thursday that Abdullahi has been invited for questioning over the matter.
GWG.ng reports that the summons to the governor flows from the allegations that the governor collected bribes in dollar notes from contractors as was claimed in videos that were circulated sometime in 2018. Though the anti-graft agency had played down the allegations against Ganduje while he was in office, the allegations were resurrected after the former governor failed in his bid to push through a friendly successor.
The anti-graft agency incidentally is headed by a man who was sacked under controversial circumstances by Ganduje.
