Danger At Lagos Airport As New Runway Lights Go Missing
The recently installed airport runway lighting systems at the domestic runway (18L/36R) of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Lagos are missing.
The precise time of the theft is yet unknown. The runway lights help pilots to do landing and takeoff safely at night, or in low visibility conditions.
Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection Yakubu Funtua informed BBC that the organization has opened an investigation into the problem.
Funtua promised that FAAN would make every effort to track out the perpetrators of the crime and bring them to justice.
He said FAAN will “block all loopholes to prevent a future occurrence”. In November 2022, the runway was reopened for 24 hours flight services after the successful installation of the ground light.
Meanwhile, the news that the airport lights at the Lagos Airport have gone missing came as the Independent National Electoral Commission (lNEC) on Wednesday objected the adoption of the deposition made by one of its staff who appeared as witness before the Governorship Election Petition Court in Kaduna.
The witness, Mr Bonet Gwaza, a Senior System Analyst with INEC, had on July 11 presented some governorship election documents before the tribunal.
Among the documents he presented were the INEC voters register for Kauru, Lere, Zaria and Igabi Local Government Areas (LGAs); BVAs report and Form EC40G for Igabi West constituency.
