PEPC: 5 Key Points In Tinubu’s Written Address

As Nigerians continue to set their gaze on the judiciary, we extract five main key points from Bola Tinubu’s leaked written address.

Recall Tinubu and his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) will file their written addresses at the Presidential Election Petitions Court on July 19 after closing their case.

A five-member panel of justices led by Justice Haruna Tsammani granted Tinubu and others 10 days from Wednesday (last week) to file their written addresses on the petition against Obi and LP, and PDP and Atiku.

The court also granted the petitioners (PDP and LP) seven days to reply while the respondents (Tinubu and APC) were given five days to further reply on points of law.

Here are the takeaways from Tinubu’s written address as filed by lead counsel, Wole Olanipekun (SAN).

1. According to Tinubu, Obi’s petition is “very novel” in the sense that the said petition is not familiar to Nigeria’s electoral jurisprudence.

2. Tinubu also said he polled more than 25℅ of the total votes cast in 25 States of the federation including the Federal Capital Territory (Abuja) where he only managed to poll 20℅ of the total votes as against Obi’s 62% votes cast.

3. In the written address obtained by Parallel Facts, the APC flag-bearer said INEC’s failure to upload on IREV does not have impact on the controversial election following the extant legal framework.

4. Tinubu also said his running mate Kashim Shettima had on July 6th ceased to be the senatorial candidate of APC for Borno Central Senatorial District while refuting allegations of double nomination levied against the latter.

5. Lastly, he added that the Court should dismiss the said petition for lacking in merit.
