Makinde Declares Wednesday Public Holiday
Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has declared Wednesday as a public holiday in the state, in commemoration of this year’s Hijrah 1445.
Wednesday is the first day of Muharram 1445AH, marking the beginning of the Islamic New Year.
The governor’s approval was contained in a circular signed by the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi.
While congratulating the Muslim faithful on the commencement of the New Year, the governor enjoined them to use the occasion to pray for the peace, unity and sustainability of the state in particular and the country in general.
GWG.ng reports that the declaration by Makinde of the first of Hijrah 1445 as a public holiday in Oyo State came as the National Assembly (NASS) Clerk, Magaji Tambuwal, has told a Federal High Court, Abuja that Sen. Adamu Bulkachuwa enjoyed immunity from any form of proceedings in respect of words spoken or written at the plenary session.
Tambuwal told Justice Inyang Ekwo in a counter affidavit filed in response to Bulkachuwa’s suit.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Bulkachuwa had sued the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), the NASS clerk, State Security Service, Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) and the Nigeria Police Force as 1st to 5th defendants respectively.
