PHOTOS: See How OBIdients Celebrated Obi’s Birthday In Ibadan
In bid to commemorate Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi’s 62nd birthday anniversary, OBIdients on Wednesday, reached out to some street kids in Ibadan.
The group under the auspices of 1MMarchCrew reached out to at least 50 kids by providing them with food items among other materials to mitigate the current hardship in the country. They also gave cash donations to the elderly in the area.
Speaking on behalf of the group, Weyimi Lube, said the donation is made in compliance with Labour Party presidential candidate, Obi’s directive to reach out to the less privileged rather than gifting him.
“Our being here is not to show that we have in abundance but it is to demonstrate our love and care to one another. The children you have here have blood flowing in their veins like every other human and deserve love and care.
“This donation was sponsored by well-meaning Nigerians who are clamouring for better Nigeria and also believe in the leadership traits of Peter Obi,” she said.
In his remarks, the caretaker of the kids, simply identified as Mr Bala, commended the group for the donation.
“We appreciate your coming and the most important thing is that it is not as little as you see. We appreciate the effort of your people,” he said.
“There is nothing too small for us. Every other thing, whether food, school fees and all those things we appreciate and it is people like you among other people who come to help with one thing or the other.
“We also use this medium to wish His Excellency, Mr Peter Obi happy birthday. Thank you for your love for the masses,” he added.
Recall Peter Obi had on Monday, July 17, stated that he would maintain his decision not to celebrate his birthdays in today’s Nigeria due to its current deplorable state.
In a tweet via his Twitter handle, Obi said that a birthday celebration for him would be counter-productive in today’s Nigeria, where many are grappling with myriads of challenges, urging that gifts meant to celebrate him be given to those in dire need.
