‘Speaker’ Named As University Expels 556 Students For Poor Performance
The University of Calabar, UNICAL has expelled 556 students of the institution among whom is one Elvert Ayambem Ekom who was being supposed as the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly.
The expulsions were upon the failure of the students to meet the academic standards required to remain in the institution.
It was gathered that the expulsion of students was spread from the 100 level to 400 levels across various faculties of the institution.
GWG.ng reports that attraction was drawn to the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly following the listing of one Ekom Ayambem Elvert with the surname Elvert as one of those listed by the expulsion.
He was listed as the number one in the Department of Economics, in the Faculty of Social Sciences in the list.
GWG.ng reports that the speaker, however, identifies himself as Elvert Ayambem Ekom with Ekom as his last name and effort to confirm if he is the one affected has been unsuccessful.
Meanwhile, the controversy over whether the speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly was the one expelled from the University of Calabar came as the Kaduna House of Assembly confirmed 12 of the 14 nominees presented by Governor Uba Sani as commissioners.
