Maigari Mahmud: 7 Things To Know About Tinubu’s New Ministerial Nominee
Maigari Mahmud, a commissioner for higher education in Kano under former Governor Abdullahi Ganduje’s second term in office, on Friday, replaced President Bola Tinubu’s ministerial nominee, Maryam Shetty.
GWG.ng earlier reported that President Bola Tinubu, on Wednesday, forwarded an additional 19 names of ministerial nominees to complement the previously sent 28-man nominees earlier sent on August 2.
However, in a letter to the Senate, the president withdrew Shetty’s nomination and replaced her with Maigari Mahmud, also from Kano.
The development has since sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians and political elites.
Below are things you should know about Maigari Mahmud.
1. Maigari was born in Bunkure Local Government Area of Kano State in 1976.
2. She attended Bunkure Gari Primary School, GGASS T/ Wadan Dankadai, for her junior secondary education and then Girls Science College Garko.
3. In 1997, she got admission to study Medicine at Bayero University Kano.
4. She is a family medicine consultant with over 20 years of experience in the field.
5. She was appointed the commissioner for higher education in Kano State in 2020 and is responsible for overseeing the state’s tertiary education system.
6. Bunkure is a strong advocate for women’s empowerment and is committed to improving the quality of education in Kano State and providing opportunities for young people to succeed.
7. Bunkure is married and has four children.
