By GWG Football Editor
Nigeria coach, Randy Waldrum has explained that playmaker Asisat Oshoala will not be in the starting line-up against England for strategic reasons.
Speaking ahead of the kick-off the coach, however, said that Oshaola will come in subsequently to give a technical verve to the game in the way she did in the match against Australia.
GWG.ng reports that in the group stage match that Barcelona playmaker, Oshaola was introduced in the early minutes of the second half and subsequently changed the pace of the Nigeria attack contributing to the second goal and scoring the third goal.
Waldrum said that England is a very technical side and his plan not to introduce Asisat Oshoala in the starting line-up was in part to the strategic approach against the English team.
GWG.ng reports that Asisat Oshoala has struggled for much of the year on account of a knee injury which made her miss out on the Champions League final.
Also speaking, key player, Ifeoma Onumonu said that the team is not under any pressure playing England.
According to her, few really expected the team to reach the elimination stage as she said that the team is now determined to build upon the laurels garnered in the group stages.
“The goal is to win the whole way and yes England is a very good team and a win against them will be very amazing. The most important is that we don’t let England get settled or get into their rhythm,” she said.
