Edo 2024: Labour Party Lays Down One Condition For Shaibu

The Labour Party in Edo State has laid down one condition for the embattled deputy governor of the state, Comrade Philip Shaibu to be welcomed into the party.

The Chairman of the party in the state, Kelly Ogbaloi spoke at the weekend during a meeting with gubernatorial aspirants in the party where he said the party will present a candidate that is generally acceptable to the populace.

The condition to the deputy governor came in the wake of the crisis of confidence between Comrade Shaibu and Governor Godwin Obaseki who has accused him of desperation in his bid to become governor.

GWG.ng reports that several of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP have sided with Obaseki against his deputy with Shaibu’s erstwhile godfather, Senator Adams Oshiomhole also chiding him over disloyalty saying that he would not be welcomed into the APC.

With the Labour Party becoming one last platform to hang on, the party’s chairman during an interaction with governorship aspirants laid a single condition for Shaibu to join the party, thus:

“If Philip Shaibu is coming to our party he will not be coming as Deputy Governor but as an individual like any other person. The party is open to everyone in Nigeria. The doors are open to anybody who want to come in to contest the election”.

Besides the condition to Shaibu, the party chairman said that the Labour Party will present a candidate who shall be acceptable.

“We want the Labour Party to win the governorship election come 2024. And to win the election we must have a candidate that will be generally acceptable to the people of Edo State,’ he added.

On the forthcoming Local Government election, he said the party is prepared for the election, adding that no party will go into an election without preparation.
