‘Demolition Of Abandoned National Secretariat,’ Social Media Fears For PDP As Wike Takes Charge In FCT
By Emmanuel Aziken
The posting of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike as Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) has opened up social media commentary that the demolition of the national secretariat of his party, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP may be top on his agenda.
GWG.ng reports that the N15 billion national secretariat of the PDP has been abandoned since 2015 with no optimism of its competition anytime soon.
Wike has been at loggerheads with the PDP on account of the management of the issues that arose from the national convention when he placed second to Atiku Abubakar.
In a post via X, formerly known as Twitter, Dr. Joe Abah, a former director-general of the Bureau of Public Service Reforms, said Wike as FCT minister would make the city centre bubble at night.
“If it’s true that Wike is the new FCT Minister, it would mean that he’ll be the first southerner to be FCT Minister. It will also mean that his band is back with a bang. Abuja gardens will no longer need to close by 7pm because Wike will come with his 40-year-old whiskey.”
However, writing via @adeniyisegun114, one Adeniyi Seugun, said he would not be surprised if Wike orders the demolition of PDP national secretariat.
“I won’t be surprised if @GovWike ended up demolishing the @OfficialPDPNig unfinished national secretariat,” @adeniyisegun114.
The immediate past substantive chairman of the PDP, Dr Iyorchia Ayu, had in January 2022 disclosed that eight floors from the party’s national secretariat will be commercialised to generate revenues.
However, he was unable to realise that dream before he was removed from office on account of intrigues fueled by the fallout with Wike.
GWG.ng reports that days before his exit as governor of Rivers State that Wike ordered the demolition of a building belonging to the Bayelsa State government ostensibly on account of the building being left decrepit and it is now feared that the demolition of the PDP national secretariat may not be out of his reach.
