In a further demonstration of the worsening relationship between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Hon Philip Shaibu, the media crew of the deputy governor has been disbanded and all media staff attached to him have been returned to the Ministry of Communication and Orientation.

A statement issued by the Commissioner for Communication and Orientation, Mr Osa Nehikhare directed the deputy governor to request the ministry for coverage should he need media coverage at any time.

The statement read thus:

“The Edo State Government has disbanded the media crew attached to the Office of the Deputy Governor, with a directive to the Deputy Governor to henceforth request the Ministry of Communication and Orientation for media coverage of activities of his office.

“This directive followed the ugly and unfortunate incident that happened during the colloquium held to mark the 60th anniversary of Midwest Referendum held at the Sir Victor Uwaifo Creative Hub and Soundstage, where some journalists, who claimed to be the media crew of the Deputy Governor, attempted to force their way into the hall where the governor and other invited dignitaries were already seated.

“This act was contrary to the accreditation protocol that had been established for media coverage of the event.

“The orchestrated and stage-managed walkout and disruption is highly regrettable.”

GWG.ng reports that the decision to disband the media crew of attached to Shaibu also follows assertions that the deputy governor’s media handlers leaked the photographs published on this website where Shaibu was shown being obstructed by security from approaching Governor Obaseki during the church service to mark the 32nd anniversary of the state on Sunday.
