Exclusive: Battle For Late Army Chief Of Accounts’ Properties, Vehicles Rages In Abuja
By Gideon Ayeni
The estate of the late Major General Abdullahi Iyanda Muraina, a distinguished Nigerian military officer, has become the center of a fierce legal battle since his passing on Friday, September 9th, 2022, at the age of 64 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
Major General Muraina, who once held the prestigious position of Chief of Accounts and Budget at the Nigerian Army Headquarters, was also a prominent figure outside of the military. He served as the 23rd President and Chairman of the Council of the Nigerian Institute of Management (Chartered).
However, since his untimely demise, disputes over the distribution of his estate have arisen, leading to a series of court proceedings. The situation has caught the attention of the public due to its complexity and the extensive list of properties involved.
The legal battle, which is currently pending before the Sharia Upper Area Court in Gudu, Abuja, hinges on the intestate distribution of the late General’s assets in accordance with Islamic law of succession. The suit, registered as SUITT_NO: CV/104/2022, involves the plaintiffs, Ann Usiagu Muraina and three others, against Aibat Adepeju Bolanle Bamidele and three others.
The long list of assets that are subjects of contention includes various houses and landed properties located in different parts of Nigeria, such as Abuja and Ibadan. Notable among these are a house in Asokoro District, FCT Abuja, the Mauve Lounge and Mauve 21 Event Centre in Ibadan, and several other commercial and residential properties.
The dispute also extends to an array of vehicles, including bulletproof Toyota Avallon and Lexus LX 570, a Ford Explorer SUV, and a Toyota Hiace 14-Seater Hummer Bus, among others.
In a warning issued by the counsel to the plaintiffs, A. I. Arotiowa, Esq. and Jeph C. Njikonye, SAN & Co., the public has been cautioned against engaging with any party seeking to acquire interests or rights in any of the aforementioned properties. The Upper Area Court has asserted jurisdiction over these properties pending the final determination of the lawsuit, making any dealings a risky endeavor.
The long list of properties has continued to make people wonder how an individual could acquire such properties in a country where it’s difficult for an ordinary person to have a square meal.
As the legal saga unfolds, the fate of Major General Abdullahi Iyanda Muraina’s estate remains uncertain.
