In Fury Over Tribunal’s Sack, Senator Says He Will Go To Law School

In fury over the court judgment that nullified his election into the senate, Senator Napoleon Bali, PDP, Plateau South has vowed to go to law school to equip himself in disentangling confusion over some recent tribunal decisions such as the ruling against him.

GWG.ng reports that Senator Bali who scored 148, 844 votes to the 91,674 votes scored by former Governor Simon Lalong had his votes nullified and classified as wasted by the tribunal over the claim that the PDP did not have a structure that produced him to contest.

Speaking on Arise News TV on Tuesday morning, Senator Bali rebuffed insinuations that the situation on the Plateau was comparable to the situation in Zamfara in 2019 following the tribunal verdict.

“The issue of Zamfara cannot be the same with that of Plateau State. Zamfara was conducted under the 2010 Electoral Act while the Plateau State Election was conducted under the 2020 Electoral Act,” the senator said.

Alleging that the tribunal judgment was raising tension in his constituency, Senator Bali said:

“I am a democrat now and ordinarily would not have gone for appeal but the overwhelming protest and outrage in the Plateau South Senatorial Zone, I can tell you even with these difficulties people are contributing money that I must appeal, and I have listened to them.”

Noting the Supreme Court judgment that the issue of the sponsorship of candidates is the internal affair of a political party to which an external party cannot have a say, he said:

“Plateau State PDP conducted her congresses on the 21st of September, 2021, INEC witnessed and the report was tendered before the tribunal. Again, the National Working Committee of the PDP were the ones who supervised the ad-hoc delegates election that produced us as candidates. Our forms were sold by the National Organising Secretary.

Querying the tribunal’s assertion that the PDP was in disobedience to court orders, Senator Bali continued:

“It was Bitrus Kaze who first took the party to court. But in the election that was conducted on the 21st of September 2021, Bitrus Kaze took part, the video was played before the governorship tribunal and all the INEC report showed that they were all repeated congresses, can you now clearly with clear conscience that PDP is in disobedience to court order?

“If two panels are sitting in the same complex why should they be giving different judgments. You remember in APM vs Vice President Shettima, the Presidential Election Tribunal sitting in Abuja clearly said, APM are you in APC? Why are you poke nosing into the affairs of APC.”

Affirming that he was considering going to Law School on account of the disconnect in the judicial pronouncements, he said:

“Is Lalong in PDP? No. we are going to challenge it in the court of Appeal. I can tell you that because of some of these judgments I am already looking for a competent school of law to also go and read law. I cannot understand this. The same subject matter, two tribunals staying in the same complex, one is saying PDP has a structure and another is saying PDP does not have structure.”

Dismissing insinuation of the factionalisation of the party, he said as he reiterated that Hon Kaze who took PDP to court three years ago came back and reunited with the party and took part in the congress which produced Chris Hassan as chairman.
