Under Pressure Minister Apologises For Supporting Professor In Bo*bs And Bums Saga

The Minister for Women Affairs, Uju Kennedy-Ohanenye, has apologized over her comments on the sexual harassment case at the University of Calabar, UNICAL where Professor Cyril Ndifon is accused of fondling the breasts and bums of his students.

In her apology following the leak of a tape in which the minister reportedly chastised the students, she has now reaffirmed her commitment to defending and advancing the rights and welfare of Nigerian women.

GWG.ng reports that the minister in a leaked audio was heard asserting that since the female students admitted that they were not raped that there was no case against Prof Cyril Ndifon and going further to say that the stundents were being used to witch-hunt the suspended dean from office.

Her assertions had caused a coalition of over 500 women rights organization known as  Womanifesto to petition President Bola Tinubu to urge Kennedy-Ohaneye, to retract her assertions and apologise.

It cannot be confirmed if the president gave the directive.

However, the minister has now apologized saying that she had continually worked for the interest of women everywhere.

In her apology over the sexual harassment case at UNICAL issued by the Director of Press and Publicity, Olujimi Oyetomi, Minister said:

“I wish to express my sincere apologies to those who were offended by my comments and actions regarding the sexual harassment scandal at the University of Calabar. This is extremely regrettable as my intentions were sincere and aligned with my consistent advocacy for the welfare of Nigerian women and the pursuit of justice.

“I stand for all Nigerian women and I stand for justice; and it is my hope that we can work together to actualize the dream of a country where women’s rights are respected and protected, and where our daughters feel safe in institutions of learning.”

Prof Ndifon has on his part affirmed his innocence and said that he was the victim of rivals out to push him away from his position as dean and it is not known the context under which the minister intervened in the UNICAL sexual harassment case.
