Orbih Makes Shocking Move To Settle Fight Between Obaseki, Shaibu

In a surprising move the National Vice-Chairman, South-South of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Dan Orbih has waded into the unfolding conflict between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu with an injunction to the fighting duo not to demarket the party in the state.

Orbih intervened vide a statement made available to the GWG.ng with an appeal to the two men to sheath their swords.

The intervention is coming on the heels of new efforts by Orbih to energise the party base in the state with strategy meetings with party chiefs in his Ogbonna country home and in Benin-City.

The intervention follows the decision by Governor Obaseki to lock Shaibu out of his former office within the Government House. Shaibu had earlier gone to court to stop the governor and the do State House of Assembly from instigating impeachment proceedings against him.

Responding to the public fight between Obsaseki and Shaibu, Orbih in a statement said:

DO NOT DE-MARKET PDP  IN EDO STATE.

I have observed with trepidation, the frosty relations between the Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Comrade Philip Shaibu and I am constrained to call on  both parties to  exercise restraint in what to say or do in the  course of this ongoing needless and endless crisis.

To my surprise, official letters, which should be confidential, are now dominating the social media space. I urge both parties to stop further hostilities and resolve their differences quietly in the interest of good governance and progress of the state. Anything less may affect the image and fortunes of the Party in the coming Guber election.

Yes, we have had issues in the past between party and government, but we haven’t allowed them to be subject to newspaper editorials.

 PDP is a strong brand in Edo State – a brand that has been nurtured over the years by the commitment of leaders and dedicated members of the party. This brand is now under serious threat by the current raging battle between the Governor and Deputy-Governor.

 I therefore seize this opportunity to call on both parties to ‘cease fire’ and resolve their differences amicably.

GWG.ng reports that the shock for many would be that Shaibu and Obaseki were not too long ago beating the same drum of war against Orbih in the fight for the PDP structure in the state.
