Supreme Court Clarifies Link Between Fire Incident And Election Petition

The Supreme Court has confirmed the fire incident that affected the complex on Monday morning but dismissed insinuations of an attack by hoodlums or an ulterior motive because of the presidential election

There is no single connection and it will not affect anything in the court,” the Supreme Court spokesman and registrar, Festus Akande said in the first reaction to the fire incident.

Speaking in an interview on Arise News Television, Akande firmly rebuffed claims in the social media that the court was under attack by hoodlums even as he said that only one chamber of the court was affected by the fire incidence contrary to claims that at least three chambers were affected.

“The Supreme Court not did not come under an invasion from hoodlums,” Akande said as he said that preliminary investigation disclosed that the fire was caused by an electrical fault.

“Staff were already in the office and it happened sometime around 7.30 to 8.00 a.m. only one chamber was affected and not two three or five affected as in the social media.”

According to him the staff quickly mobilsied and used fire extinguishers to attack the fire before help cam from outside fire services.

While reiterating that the fire will not affect the work of the court, he said that the only thing that besides computers and other stationeries affected the library and the books inside that chamber were affected.
