2023 Nigeria Decides
More Tension As Atiku Asks Chicago University To Release Tinubu Documents By Monday
Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has officially filed a 17-page suit in response to President Bola Tinubu’s objection to the release of his academic records at Chicago University.
It was previously reported that Atiku and his legal team were given two days to respond to Tinubu’s motion that Atiku’s request is unduly intrusive as it allows the latter to conduct a fishing expedition into the intervenor’s private, confidential, and protected educational records.
In the suit filed by Atiku via his legal team, reasons are given as to why Nancy Maldonado should discountenance and overrule Tinubu’s objections to release the academic records.
Among other things, the suit is asking the US District Court to:
- Throw away Bola Tinubu’s Objections in their entirety. If the Court overrules the Objections, it should
Sustain the order of Magistrate Jeffery T. Gilbert.
-Order Chicago State University to proceed with the production of all the required documents no later than October 2, 2023
-Make deposition scheduled no later than October 3 to allow time for transcripts to be finalized.
Furthermore, Atiku’s counsel, Angela Liu stated that Nigeria’s Supreme Court will accept new evidence so far as the documents are relevant and related to the proceedings and or appeal filed before it, a contrast to what Tinubu stated earlier.
