Rivals on and off the pitch, a city divided into Blue and Red, came together at least for once, this time in grief on a sad day across Manchester as United and City suffered losses in matchday 7 of the 2022-23 Premier League season.

United lost at home to Crystal Palace while City were beaten on their travel to Wolves.

It was yet another defeat for Erik ten Hag’s Red Devils who have now suffered a third loss in their last four Premier League games. United and Palace faced twice this week, firstly in the Carabao Cup when the English giants strolled to a 3-0 win. But back in the league, at Old Trafford again, the Eagles were unwilling to accept a second defeat at the hands of their opponents. Joachim Andersen’s thunderbolt secured a narrow 1-0 victory for the visitors. After that win, Palace head coach Roy Hodgson became the first manager in history to remain unbeaten in five consecutive Premier League matches at Old Trafford.

For their noisy neighbours, it was a first defeat of the season as City lost 2-1 to struggling Wolves. A trip to Molineux has never been an easy ride for Pep Guardiola’s men and they struggled yet again after falling behind by a Ruben Dias own goal in the first half. Julian Alvarez continued his fine start to the season as he scored from a direct free kick to draw the league leaders level.

South Korean forward Hwang Hee Chan then scored the decider to condemn to their first dropped points in the league this season.

GWG.ng reports that Week 7 was a unique day for Manchester town as the two bitter teams, City and United, turned away from their bitter rivalry to a unique grief.
