A recent video circulating online has caused a stir among Opay users, raising concerns about the security of their accounts and transactions, drawing the leading digital pay platform to a quick response. The video features a distressed Opay customer recounting how her money mysteriously disappeared from her account, allegedly moved by an unknown person without her consent.

According to the woman, a substantial amount of 82,500 naira vanished, and her account was even used to borrow money, all without her knowledge. Furthermore, she claimed that 216,000 naira was also siphoned from her brother’s account, leaving them both baffled and frustrated.

The incident has sent shockwaves across social media platforms, with users expressing their worries about the safety of their funds on the Opay platform. The affected customer stated that she had reported the matter to the police, and although they had served a letter to Opay, no resolution had been reached.

In response to the viral video, Opay released a disclaimer on their official social media accounts, asserting that the incident depicted was an old video and the issue had already been resolved. The company assured its customers that their money was secure and urged them not to be deterred or frightened, emphasizing the integrity of their services.

This incident comes at a sensitive time for Opay, following the resignation of its President/Co-CEO, Mr. Olu Akanmu, earlier this year. The company was, however, prompt to respond to the issue specifically detailing that it was a regurgitation of an old video.

Opay, known for its convenient digital mobile banking services, had gained popularity, especially during the period of naira redesign earlier this year when other commercial banks faced operational challenges. However, this recent controversy has left many users questioning the reliability and security of the platform.

As Opay attempts to reassure its users, the incident underscores the growing importance of cybersecurity in the digital banking sector. Customers are now more vigilant than ever, emphasizing the need for companies like Opay to invest heavily in robust security measures to maintain the trust of their user base.
