Bayelsa: Sylva In Suspense As Court Reserves Judgment Over Disqualification

The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, has reserved judgment on the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC), candidate in the November 11 governorship election in Bayelsa State, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The court took the decision after it heard the appeal filed by Sylva and his party, through Dr Ahmed Raji, SAN and Mr Akinlolou Kehinde, SAN.

GWG.ng reports that they had approached the court to set aside the judgement of a Federal High Court, Abuja, which disqualified Sylva, from participating in the election upon the claim that he had been sworn in twice.

The court presided over by Justice Donatus Okorowo had also ruled that having served for five years that another term for Sylva would give him the latitude to govern beyond the maximum eight years.

When the case came up yesterday, parties in the appeal sorted out processes and the appeal was set down for October 27 for hearing.

GWG.ng further reports that besides the appeal that Sylva through his lawyer, Dr  Raji filed a stay of execution of the judgement for the re-enlistment of his name in the candidates’ list.

However, when the case came up on Friday the court rather than considering the motion on stay of execution decided to take the case and following which decided to reserve judgment.

The Appeal Court said it would notify the parties on a date for judgment a decision that has now put Sylva on a suspense as to the fate of his second term bid.
